The police in Atlanta received a report of two cars on Interstate-75 speeding late Wednesday night. It was about 9:30 pm on September 30th when the officers got the call. They immediately responded to the scene where they saw two cars speeding down the highway going more than 100 mph.
One of the vehicles took off. However, the cops were able to locate the other one. The driver, an unidentified 25-year old man, was driving a black BMW coupe. He led the police on a high speed chase which started near the Howell Mill Road exit on Interstate-75.
The suspect, who was going more than 120 mph, took the 17th street exit. He proceeded to speed down 10th street and ended up crashing into several vehicles at the intersection of Techwood Drive and 10th Street. As soon as the impact happened, the suspect jumped out of his car and fled on foot. The police are still looking for the hit-and-run driver. However, the crash was captured on local surveillance so the police know who the suspect is. They have a warrant out for his arrest and are asking for the public’s help in turning him in.
One of the cars hit by the suspect was a Nissan Altima. Inside the car was 18-year old Anjanae McClain and a young infant. Both sustained serious injuries and McClain was pronounced dead at the scene. The infant was taken to the local hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Three other cars were also involved in the crash caused by the hit-and-run driver. The authorities confirmed that several other passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment.
