One person was killed in a Bibb County collision between a car and a tractor-trailer. The fatal accident occurred over the weekend on the I-75S. It was reported to the authorities at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 28.
According to the details shared by the Georgia State Patrol, the tractor-trailer involved in the Bibb County collision had become disabled on I-75S. The vehicle was stopped in the middle of the second to left lane close to the Hartley Bridge Road exit.
To alert the other drivers on the road, emergency cones had been placed right behind the tractor-trailer. This was so that other drivers coming along the left lanes could see the stopped vehicle in the distance.
At around 6 p.m. the driver of a Kia Sorento failed to spot the stopped tractor-trailer in time. This caused the driver to crash into the truck at a high rate of speed. Two occupants were traveling in the Sorento at the time of the collision. These included the driver and a passenger.
Both suffered serious injuries in the crash. Once the crash was called in, first responders and paramedics rushed to the scene. Emergency medical treatment was provided to the injured driver and passenger of the Sorento on the scene of the accident. They were then rushed to Atrium Health Navicent’s Medical Center.
Attempts to revive the injured passenger failed who succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. She was later identified as Michelle Fletcher, 32. The Sorento driver also remains in serious condition and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
GSP continues to investigate the crash. In Atlanta accidents like these, the truck driver and trucking company can be held liable if they committed any negligence. A qualified Atlanta car accident lawyer can help the victims recover a fair amount of damages.
